Can Your Garage Door Cope In The Winter?
One of the more expensive parts of your home can be the garage door, due to how often it's used. During the colder months, it can be under pressure, especially if it has been a harsh winter. If your garage door is faulty during this time it can be difficult, as we tend to use our cars more at this time of year. One common issue a garage door could have, is a damaged spring. If the door doesn’t move after being let go, then the springs are fine. If it starts to move, they may need replacing. A safety cable can be fitted to be a counter-weight, meaning if your springs stop working, it won’t be as concerning. If the weather is bad and water lingers at the bottom of the garage door, it can potentially freeze and seal the door, preventing it from opening. You will have to either get rid of it with a scraper and hot water (carefully) to melt the ice until free. Unfortunately wooden doors are more sensitive towards wet weather, as the door can swell and affect the spacing. This can make the door stick and hard to open. You should also ensure the mechanism is oiled efficiently to keep it running properly, but keep an eye on the weather as it can affect the consistency, making it thicker. If this happens, the sensors can become faulty and cause the door to stop working.
Whatever the weather, keeping a look out for any issues with your door, can prevent an expensive problem down the line and ensure it is protected against the elements, call us for Garage doors and Electric gates in Windsor.
